Interlude

By Crystal Arbogast

-----The waters of the Caribbean rolled gently underneath the star speckled sky. A gentle breeze guided the few, small billowy clouds along, and caressed the sail of the boat, which rocked gently on the surface. A full moon provided enough light; enough for Marie to admire her companion's silhouette as he tugged at the riggings.
-----Alexandro's muscular body strained as he pulled and tightened the ropes. Marie felt a surge of excitement as he turned and smiled at her. His teeth flashed white against his dark complexion. After securing the last rope, Alexandro moved to the ice chest and pulled out a bottle of wine. Marie watched in fascination as he went through the motions. First, he removed the cork, and poured a small portion into one of the glasses they had brought. Next, lifting the sample to his nostrils, he inhaled the aroma. Raising the glass to his lips, Alexandro swallowed. Another smile spread across his face, and he glanced toward Marie.
-----"It's perfect, my love," he murmured, as he picked up the bottle, and the other glass.
He maneuvered his way carefully in her direction, and sat down next to her. As his thigh pressed against hers, Marie shivered again with excitement, mingled with a bit of fear.
-----"Are you cold, sweetheart?"
-----Alexandro wrapped one arm around her.
-----"No."
-----"Afraid, then?"
-----Alexandro nestled the bottle between them, and cradled her chin in his hand. Lifting her head, he forced Marie to meet his eyes. As she gazed into them, she wondered how many women had drowned in the brilliance of those amber orbs.
-----"Maybe, just a little," she whispered.
-----"Let's make a toast, shall we?" Alexandro retrieved the bottle and filled both glasses.
-----"What shall we drink to?" Marie's voice sounded small and timid to her ears.
-----Alexandro raised his glass and said, "To the moon, the stars, and this beautiful night. To the beautiful woman I'm about to make love to."
-----Marie watched as he emptied his glass, and lifted her own to her lips. The wine was sweet, and after two glasses, she felt warm and relaxed. Alexandro set the glasses aside, and reached for her. Marie's fears slipped away. Passion became the ruler of her thoughts and feelings. A sigh escaped from her as his kisses trailed from her mouth to her neck.
Alexandro eased Marie's T-shirt up over her breasts, and tugged at the snap which fastened her jeans. Gently pushing her back, he began to pull the jeans down; over her hips, past her knees, over her feet. He then lowered himself down, and as her legs parted, she opened her eyes to the sky, focusing on the brightest star. As she lifted her arms around his neck, his breath felt warm and moist against her.
-----"Marie, my love. Marie," he whispered passionately.
-----"Marie!"
-----Her body jolted as the sound of breaking glass shattered into the night.
-----"What?"
-----Marie blinked her eyes and woke up to reality. Her husband's voice rumbled out of the house, and onto the back porch.
-----"Yeah, Dave? I'm out here!"
-----Marie bent down and picked up the jagged pieces of the glass, which had recently contained her beer. Dave stuck his head out of the doorway and peered at his wife.
-----"What happened? Did you doze off?"
-----"Yeah, I guess I did."
-----"Oh well. Look Hon, I'm going down to play darts with the guys. By the way, are you doing laundry tonight? I'm out of underwear. See you later."
-----"See you later."
-----Marie listened as the front door slammed behind him. Pushing the chair against the side of the house, she surveyed the area for any remnants of broken glass. Satisfied, she turned to go back inside. Before entering, she gazed at the night sky and smiled.
-----"To be continued," she whispered.
